According to microbiologist, Alex Berezow – “UV light is a powerful disinfectant because its high-energy photons are able to damage the genetic material inside of microbes. (The genetic material for most microbes is DNA. However, for some viruses, including coronavirus, the genetic material is RNA1.)”

Using UV light to clean objects
- UV light is a section of unseen lightwaves, the ultraviolet range and it comes in three bands.
- UVA and UVB are the most common forms that’ll you’ll find mentioned on sun screen lotion. These are the rays that tan the skin and can burn when not treated with care.
- UVC is generally filtered out by the atmosphere and doesn’t make it to the Earth’s surface but was discovered that it can kill viruses and bacteria.
- Because of this, UVC is being made artificially and is already used in locations that need to have the utmost confidence in items being sterilised such as surgical equipment.
- We use the UVC bandwidth of light in UVUK products so you can have the confidence in sterilising your own personal items.
